To protect the campus woods and other natural features of the campus for teaching, research and the enjoyment of the Wright State University campus community the Faculty Senate formed an ad hoc committee in the fall of 2013 and a full committee starting fall of 2014 entitled the WSU Natural Areas Committee. To assist this committee in its tasks the university created a 12-month Graduate Research Assistantship. This GRA position has been promised for at least three years. Additional funds have been provided to the committee to support relevant projects. The first recipient of this GRA is W. Patrick White, a student in the Environmental Sciences PhD Program. Committee members were impressed by his history of involvement in issues regarding the campus woods and by his skills in GIS, public environmental outreach and related areas. A large part of his activities for the next year will be improving the series of trails through the woods. Congratulations to Pat!
