Why Choose the Psychology, Aviation Concentration Program?

The Aviation Psychology (AVP) concentration is an excellent choice for students interested in combining the scientific study of human behavior with technical knowledge required in aviation. Students who choose this path may be motivated by a desire to enhance safety, efficiency, and decision-making in aviation environments. 

The Aviation Psychology concentration is designed to provide opportunities to achieve six outcomes:

  • Understand human behavior, including how cognitive workload and human performance factors are related to aviation.
  • Use research skills to define goals, identify problems, and develop potential solutions within an aviation perspective. Use critical evaluation skills to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Adhere to strong ethical principles, particularly relating to safe work practices and reporting of critical incidents.
  • Communicate information effectively, both verbally and in writing, including technical material.
  • Work effectively in teams, both as a member and as a leader, and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have strong self-management skills, know how to define and achieve goals in unclear situations, see projects from idea to final result, and balance work/life responsibilities.

Students must apply for admission to Wright State University. For admission into the Department of Psychology, applicants must meet the following requirements.

Psychology majors interested in applying to the Aviation Psychology Concentration must be classified as Bachelor of Science (BS) degree-seeking student.
