We are interested in macroecology or large-scale ecology and conservation biology. In particular, understanding and predicting the distribution and abundance of species is a research focus. Arguably, this question is at the heart of ecology—the science of the interaction of species with their environment.

We attempt to find patterns in species or community distributions and abundances and explain them, at least partly, through general mechanisms and processes. The ultimate goal of our research is prediction, which then can inform conservation management. Secondary research foci are community ecology, forest policy, and Marbled Murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus). Click here for more details on our research.
