The College of Science and Mathematics Faculty Teaching Awards 2014-15

Teaching Innovation Award; Audrey E. McGowin, Ph.D.

Nominations were requested for CoSM faculty and chairs, and self-nominations were also accepted. Nominees were then asked to fill out a questionnaire that included detailed descriptions of their innovations. On the basis of the questionnaire responses, the committee chose Dr. Audrey McGowin as the 2014-15 awardee, for her development and implementation of a service learning course that incorporates hands on chemical testing of water out in the local community.

Dr. McGowin is associate proffesor in the Department of Chemistry. Her current research interest are to examine the potential of sea turtle leeches.

Students’ Choice Award; Nick A. Ritucci, Ph.D.

This award allows students to nominate faculty members based on his or her effectiveness, passion, and empathy concerning student learning, and most importantly, who have made a significant impact on their students’ lives. The College of Science and Mathematics' Dean’s Circle members manage the student nomination process. The goal of the nomination process is to select faculty who teach in both large and small classes across the curriculum while simultaneously assessing student feedback.

Dr. Ritucci is a lecturer in the Department of Neuroscience Cell Biology and Physiology. He teaches several human anatomy and physiology courses in addition to teaching in the Boonshoft School of Medicine.

Congratulations to Dr. McGowin and Dr. Ritucci on their awards!
