On Saturday, April 22, 2017 psychology students Cheyna Brower and Morgan Borders will be joining in the Dayton sister march of the Washington D.C. March for Science. Brower and Borders reached out to March for Science to help organize a Dayton satellite event to champion this cause for those who cannot make it to Washington D.C. Brower said, "to me, using science as a foundation for policy is a no-brainer. It makes sense to base the rules that govern our society on the most rigorously tested information we have available." They are passionate to give science a voice and feel the march is a good opportunity to unite the Miami Valley's strong scientific community to let our policy makers know that science is the foundation of our lives. To promote science not silence.
The march will take place at 2:00 pm at Dayton Courthouse Square. The purpose of the event is a nonpartisan celebration of science by scientist and science enthusiasts. Participants are diverse yet united by their passion for science and discovery. The principles are simple; support science that serves the common good and teach our citizenry to think critically, to ask questions and evaluate truth based on the weight of evidence. Organizers of the march is using this event to bring awareness, to gardner support for future efforts and to engage our communities in democratic life.
