Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences Receives Advanced Seismic Source

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences has received a IVI Minivibe Model T7000W on long term loan from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.  Working with a longtime collaborator at UNLV, Dr. Barbara Luke, Wright State Associate Professor Dr. Ernest Hauser spearheaded the agreement to bring this valuable piece of equipment to WSU.   Dr. Hauser works closely with Dr. Doyle Watts in EES.

The minivibe is a source of seismic energy for geophysical imaging and is an environmentally friendly seismic source compared to shot hole methods.   This type of equipment is very rare in University settings and will be used as part of ongoing research and seismic data collected with both graduate and undergraduate students. The minivibe will provide students with hands-on experience with actual equipment used in industry.  Future studies under discussion include collaboration with the Ohio Geological Survey.
