According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook, projected employment (2008-2018) in the health care professions is expected to grow much faster than average, with more than a 22% increase in job opportunities in most of these professional careers [Medicine (22%), Veterinary Medicine (33%), Dentistry (16%), Physician Assistant (39%), Physical Therapy (30%), Pharmacy (17%) and Optometry (24%)]. With that said, it's not surprising that so many students are entering, or returning, to college to pursue a health profession.
The Pre-Health Advising Program helps students combine the Pre-Health pre-requisite course work with classes required by their major. For returning students wishing to change careers or enhance their academic record, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Medical Studies is available. In addition, a minor in Public Health and a certificate in African American and Gender Experiences is offered to students as an opportunity to gain a cultural understanding of those around us and the community as a whole. To better prepare our students for admission into medical school, we've created an MCAT Prep Course that assists our students with test taking and study skill strategies.
